Remember, this is a journey to the cross. On our way we need to learn why we must go there. It is not because of our great wisdom and ability to be good disciples. It’s because of our weakness and sinfulness, our lack of faith and spiritual insight, our failure to love and be generous toward others, our discomfort with God and his ways. It is because we need forgiveness, cleansing, and renewal.

How free is the butterfly who does not spread its wings?

How free is the ostrich whose head is in the sand?
How free is the bird once loosed, his cage now out of sight?… If the foolish avian refused to take flight?

The phrase “my thoughts & prayers go with you” has become a way of abdicating responsibility for being involved in other people’s lives and trying to heal their brokenness and meet their needs.
